Whether you are a child or adult, beginner, or advanced performer, I am happy to guide you through the challenges of perfecting the art of piano playing.
Learning to play piano at a young age provides the benefit of carrying those skills for life. Beginner classes provide and build on basics of piano, while encouraging students to grow their skills through performance and recitals.
It is never too late to start – or to start again! Introductory and advanced classes are available for the adults who wish they had kept learning the piano.
What students are saying
“Her teaching style is fun. She had a sticker board that each student can be awarded one sticker if he/she did well in today’s lesson. My kids were always excited to tell me that if they won a sticker that day.
Melissa sometimes held group lessons so similar aged and skilled student took lesson as a group, play some fun piano-related games, listen to other students’ play and give comments. Sometimes, Melissa paired students to play duet or trio, those were also very interesting and fun experience to kids.
Melissa is always reachable. She replies immediately to your text/voice messages or emails. Very flexible with rescheduling.
We highly recommend Melissa as a piano teacher and are envious of her future students who can experience her contagious passion and love of music.”

“Melissa Luan has been the piano teacher of my two daughters since they started piano lessons at the age of 6, and my older daughter had been taking lessons with Melissa for 8 years before she moved!
Over the years, we never thought of changing piano teacher! Melissa is professional with formal education and Master’s degree in music. She has extensive experience teaching both young and older kids as she has been committed to music education.
She is always patient, encouraging, and trying to make learning piano a fun experience. She offers many recital opportunities for the students to gain performing experiences, which include formal recitals as well as recitals for fun (e.g. holiday recitals).
My two daughters were very sad that Melissa moved to California, but we all wish her the best!”

Lesson Times
In sports or in school, most students have practices/classes more than 1time a week. It is so that techniques can be developed and retained. The same applies to piano lessons. Taking 2 lessons a week allows for more detailed training so that students can have a steadier and quicker progress.
“Excellence is an Art. It is the Habit of Practice.”
Aristotle
Practice
Just like a child needs to learn their ABC’s first before they read and needs to know how to count before learning addition or subtraction, a student’s lesson and their repertoire all depends on their basic foundations. If you do not practice, then at our lessons we will be going over the same thing over and over and it becomes frustrating. This is the number one reason why students give up. The only way to move forward and advance is by completing the basic structure and foundation through frequent practicing. As parents, we want to encourage children to have that patience and not to give up because end results will be rewarding. Through it all, a greater gift of music is produced, and the student will feel a great sense of pride and satisfaction when they accomplish their piece!
